If closed while maximize will be not render on next launch

Describe the bug / provide steps to reproduce it

I install Zed via pacman. Zed is working correctly on the first launch, but blank on the next launch.

If close Zed while maximize the window, on the next start up Zed will be blank. And It appear that is affect when open new project in new window when the main window is in maximize position, it will cause newly open window to not rendered. Zed windows then can be restore by resizing the window.

I try close it while maximize and non-maximize, the problem appear to only cause when Zed try to open new window and try to be in maximize position.

when delete folder "~/.local/share/zed", it can show nomally.

Thank you @youngday for bring the solution into my attention. It seem that problem was cause by something in the ~/.local/share/zed.

Delete that folder indeed temporary solve the problem. And Seem like someone else also solving the similar issue about window rendering by remove that folder.

After I play around, I was able to pin point the problem. It appear that problem is cause by:

  • Open Zed window that opened in project mode that has previously closed in maximize position before.
  • Open new project in new window, while current window are maximize. It cause newly open window of the new project to not rendered.

Delete ~/.local/share/zed only temporary solve the problem. If I open new project and then maximize the window and close Zed in maximize position. The next time I open Zed, the problem still persist.

I will update the original issue message to reflex this information.

As of writing of this comment. I try to pin point the problem another time.

After I did an system upgrade, now Zed emit an error when launch. I can't remember the error message. Because I remember I seem this error message on Zed's Github issues, then I install valkan-intel right after.

Zed then working correctly.

I then trying to confirm and reproduce the fix by uninstall valkan-intel. Now after I install valkan-inter back in current time, Zed go back to the same behavior but seem to emit difference in log.

I also notice that I should provide more detail on my system as the problem might relate to intel and vulkan. I have updated the original issues message to include more detail of my system.

I have just faced the same issue with ZED 0.150.4 in a Docker container running Ubuntu 20.04 but using the Nvidia container toolkit runtime allowing to use the host Nvidia vulkan driver on Ubuntu 22.04.

Edit: When this happen, the logs are full of this line:

Acquire failed because the surface is out of date

Which seems to come from this line.

@notpeter I still encounter this similar issue when start using Zed (0.151.1) on Linux, EndeavourOS. Any planned for permanent fix for this?

There is a similar issue on Windows, but deleting directories like ~/.local/share/zed (which is under Appdata on Windows, I forgot the exact location) didn't work, and on Windows, the error occurs when minimizing, not maximizing.
