Describe the bug / provide steps to reproduce it
I installed Zed on Ubuntu 20.04.6 LTS, everything is fine, but when I try to run it, the window does not display directly.
I ran the vkcube command and it works fine, I changed to xorg and nothing happens anyway.
Environment
OS: Ubuntu 20.04.6 LTS x86_64 Laptop: Dell Inspiron 15 3520 Kernel: 5.15.0-113-generic CPU: 12th Gen Intel i7-1255U (12) @ 4.700GHz GPU: Intel Device 4628 DE: GNOME in Wayland

Update: I installed DE:Plasma KDE and ran Zed and the error it throws in a popup is NoSupportedDeviceFound
I have the same issue in my WSL environment. There I regularly use gitk or other IDEs such as Eclipse, IDEA, etc. via XLaunch X-Server.
If I run zed after a seemingly successful installation it doesn't print anything but nothing happens either. I've let it run in the background for a few minutes before looking for similar issues.
In my ubuntu 22.04, zed do not show any response though vulkan is working
It's got the title set on the window, but it's clearly not rendering anything or accepting input. It does close when I hit X.
Probably some bugs in the X11 window setup routines? It's been written from scratch, so I don't think it's been properly tested.
Is there anything in the Zed.log on your systems?
We should at least see some noise if we're booting at all; and if we're not getting that far, something is very broken :D.
WSL2, Windows 11. vkcube works fine.
It asked me for a keyring, I closed the prompt.

@petabyt I see Adapter "llvmpipe (LLVM 15.0.7, 256 bits)" which likely means that we're falling back to software rendering for you.
Although it should look better than that, you'll probably need to debug your GPU setup to make Zed work well at all.
I'm running into the same problem on Ubuntu 20.04: vkcube runs but Zed does not open a window. I also get these warnings in my Zed.log:
[WARN] Rejected for device extension "VK_KHR_dynamic_rendering" not supported
[WARN] Rejected for device extension "VK_EXT_inline_uniform_block" not supported
When I boot Ubuntu 24.04 on the same device, Zed works. It seems to me that the Vulkan drivers in Ubuntu 20.04 are too old to run Zed. Zed should probably detect this and show a useful message.
where can I find the log or generate it
Seems to be at ~/.local/share/zed/logs/Zed.log on Linux.

However I have package fonts-powerline installed (sudo apt-get install fonts-powerline)
When using the command from @petabyt
unset WAYLAND_DISPLAY; zed
zed opens but not the file dialog in zed (neither when clicking on open a new project or ctrl +o)
vkcube is working fine/fast

I've installed the mesa drivers from here:

I think we need cleanup linux tickets, it's mixed completely different issues!
20.04 will work only if you replace kernel and mesa drivers, which difficult. KHR_DYNAMIC_RENDERING is Vulkan 1.3 and was add (enabled) to Intel drivers only in 2022 - https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/commit/61ece8f6a49db58a76c2b6e825964675decc5d83 I think Zed should notice in documentation what it support only Ubuntu 24.04 OR/AND OS with full support Vulkan 1.3 drivers.
Same here, when launching zed, the app window does not render its own content; instead, whatever it was in the same screen space, becomes the contents of the zed window, as if it was a screenshot.

you have already tried the solution proposed by @definitelyuncertain , just check which mesa-vulkan-drivers can be used or read the arch guide on drivers. and let us know how it goes.

This just started happening to me too today, after my laptop crashed 5 times due to some driver issue. The logs are vague or nonexistant, all I'm really able to get out of it is an error saying that DISPLAY and WAYLAND_DISPLAY aren't set (despite the fact that they both are)
Reinstalling my drivers and zed itself didn't work
