Turning off soft wrap via command doesn't really work properly

Describe the bug / provide steps to reproduce it

When I turn off soft wrap via command "editor: toggle soft wrap" the text still gets wrapped at around 510th position.

Default: image

Setting "editor_width": image

Command "editor: toggle soft wrap", this should be off, but not really: image

Setting "none": image

Toggling off soft wrap via command should effectively work the same way as setting "none" in settings. It's also how VS Code behaves.

Environment

Zed: v0.140.5 (Zed Preview) OS: macOS 14.5.0 Memory: 16 GiB Architecture: aarch64

I have the exact same error. It is so hilariously funny, I do not even know...

Also have this problem for long markdown tables

Still an issue in 0.159.10.

Can easily be reproduced by generating a long line, say 100 words long and toggling soft wrap on/off.

Is there any ETA on this?

From the docs: none to avoid wrapping generally, unless the line is too long

What does too long mean? I have a line of autogenerated code that's 2195 characters long and I can't force Zed not to wrap it. Any ideas?

I also have autogenerated data that can span up to 20,000 characters, and I can't get Zed to display it correctly without wrapping.

It looks like the forced wrapping is to work around some rendering limitations. https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/17736#issuecomment-2377474371
