Creating an image previewer for svg/png/jpg images

I miss this feature from most other editors and i was looking to build maybe an extension to support this, i don't see much in the docs wrt creating a new split to render the image on it. Just wondering if building an extensions is the right way or will it require modifying the main codebase.

Thanks for the suggestion! Isn't all of this already possible though? You can open images in Zed and we have the svg: open preview command. Or am I not undertstanding you properly?
