It seems that https://openplacereviews.org/ doesnt have any API. I guess we would have to clone their blockchain DB and create the service ourselves. Do you know about other possibility? I like the idea though. And they also want to sync tripadvisor content (not sure when).

Mangrove have some API, but it is not synced with OSM ID, we would have to match only based on location, which can be tricky in shopping malls and so. But we already match based on location with mapillary, so maybe this is not an issue.

Same goes with Tripadvisor, and their api is definitely not free. We would have to ask them for cooperation - feel free to do it anyone :-)

Thanks. Here is their API call, looks pretty straight forward to implement. Although I would like to have some simple figma design prepared first. Just pasting the reviews in the side panel seems wrong to me, it would need an accordion or something similar.

OpenPlaceReviews looks pretty abandoned, mangrove.reviews looks super promising. The advantage of OpenPlaceReviews was/is that there is a OsmAnd Plugin which allows to upload photos on the road, but that works only for very limited types of POIs.

I am not sure if this issue covers only pulling images / reviews from mangrove or also submitting such info. We should also consider the feature to submit reviews and photos to the mangrove database.

I recognize that this isn't an open source provider (reviews are kinda open source anyway?), but Yelp appears to have a read-only option.

We could always just provide external link to yelp to add their own.

I have always wanted to use only opensource data in OsmAPP (satellite being an exception from clear reasons).

There is a small boundary between integrating Yelp and Google Maps reviews. Not that it isn't useful, quite contrary, but if someone needs a useful map, let them use gmaps. OsmAPP should provide opensource alternative..

Another advantage of opensource project is they can't close/paywall API, or at least if they do someone can spin off a new one.

Though these are just my general thoughts, i haven't explored Yelp yet. Maybe it'll make an exception 😅

As an alternative project, we recommend looking at Mangrove reviews, which has shown sustainable growth in recent years.
