The Earth Is Not Flat, and Neither Is Your Graph: User Experience Beyond Bubbles
Session Overview
From a technological standpoint, RDF-based knowledge graphs should be mainstream. As noted in a book, "it allows you to work with real-world data and problems that are horribly complicated. While you can avoid RDF, it is harder to avoid complicated data and complicated computer problems".
So, why haven’t these become mainstream? In this presentation, I will draw on a decade of experience with Zazuko to discuss why, although graphs are immensely useful for technologists, tree structures dominate elsewhere. I will explore our shift from the excitement of graph exploration to configuring meta-models atop these graphs, crafting user interfaces that reflect what people already understand: domain-specific views resembling trees rather than networks.
This shift highlights our forthcoming open-source project at Zazuko, designed to embody these principles, offering a practical approach to integrating complex graph data into user-friendly, tree-like structures.
