Unable to embed .drawio local file in document, .svg works

I have saved a .drawio file locally, created with the desktop app.

If I include ![](filename.drawio) in my Obsidian document, the diagram does not display/embed.

If I save the diagram locally as an .svg file then include ![](filename.svg) in Obsidian, it embeds fine.

Is this expected?
