[BUG] - Connection loss when automatically switching frequency bands with shared SSID

Open RaptDept opened this issue 3 months ago • 1 comments

Describe the bug My single router provides a dual band wireless access point. Both 2.5GHz and 5GHz share the same SSID.

When tunneling is active, I noticed that when my device automatically switches bands from 5GHz to 2.5GHz (in blind spots where 5GHz signal is poor), network activity stops. More precisely, the wifi indicator on Android's status bar shows solid transmit and zero receive. Whenever this happens, I have to toggle tunneling off and then on again to get things working again.

Smartphone (please complete the following information):

  • Device: Redmi Note 10 Pro
  • Android Version: Android 13
  • App Version: 3.3.9

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Connect to dual-band AP with the same SSID on both bands
  2. Connect to a tunnel
  3. Confirm that the connection works
  4. Let the device switch bands automatically
  5. Confirm that the connection no longer works
  6. Toggle the tunnel off and on
  7. Confirm that the connection works again

Expected behavior The connection should work regardless of band switching.

Screenshots (Only if necessary)

Additional context Without tunneling, I don't have issues with my devices moving from 5GHz to 2.5GHz automatically. This also doesn't happen in the Wireguard app.
