Bridge Discord message edits to IRC
Unfortunately, it looks like it's not possible to disable editing messages on the Discord side, https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360042840692-Edit-permission. So, it'd be nice to do something when a user edits a message.
I suppose this could be a separate bot, but I don't know how to set one up.
I'd considered this in the past but not come up with a reasonable way to bridge it to IRC that wouldn't be really spammy. It has been probably a couple of years now but I still don't know what this should look like.
Presumably we'd want some additional context indicating that the newly emitted message on the IRC side is an edit, but that may make these even spammier and more verbose than they'd be without it.
Any thoughts on what this would look like on the IRC side?
Even a reminder purely on the Discord side that edits are not transferred to IRC would be nice. Something like "I noticed you editing a message, the IRC side didn't see it, and we can't disable editing here".
An intermediate solution would be to make it equally spammy on both sides.
Or, there could indeed be a solution that's only spammy on the IRC side, but it is problematic as you said. In the ideal world, it'd be an option, but I'm not sure I'd use it.
It could even be a separate bot that yells at people who do edits, but setting up two bots is more hassle.
I don't have a much better idea at the moment.
