This is to preserve a patch by by @mcepl that was originally online at https://github.com/mcepl/slugify.git at 5_no_unicode branch.

I've been using @mcepl's patch in production for years, I would consider it very well tested. He recently took it down. If you still maintain slugify, making a py3-compatible release would be great.

I completely support this PR and I release it to public domain, do whatever you want to do with it.
