Cannot get it to work with file:// protocol (local html file URLs)

I want a new tab to open a local html file, using the file:// protocol. However, when I do this in this extension, is says: "If your URL is a local file then you will have to enable the "Allow access to file URLs" permission for this extension:" and has a button below it that says "Grant Permission" When I click the "Grant Permission" button - it just takes you to: edge://extensions/?id=oeibmbobgpgnbnlbaffdgebpeepfbnhi which is the "Installed extensions / Custom New Tab URL" page, and I see nothing on that page to enable granting of permission.

+1; Gonna subscribe to this thread too. I'm disabling the extension till it's fixed (or until someone finds a workaround or alternative 😖)
