Add "widget" support.
Why do you want this feature?
So we can directly play songs from homescreen.

Hi @z-huang I would like to add this widget, as no one is currently working on this. Also the so called "Hacktoberfest" is taking place (https://hacktoberfest.com/participation/#contributors) which is a great opportunity and it would be nice if you could add the "hacktoberfest" badge to this repository. Then my pull request would count for me :)
That's great! Added hacktoberfest to the topic. I'd like the widget to apply Material You like the following picture, and I may modify the code according to my taste after accepting your PR.
Let's wait for @quwepiro . The PR doesn't have to be perfect, just make it functional and I'll take care of the rest.

Btw, @z-huang is it possible to make the widget material you dynamic to the music's artwork?
Though I haven't investigated on widgets, I think it's possible, since the view is simple.

I love the idea of a widget with material UI design or it can adopt the design correspondence to the playing music,
Personally I Like that round design playing widget in Players like VLC,
I have added some images here maybe it can trigger my idea.

I just started poking around the source code since I've been using Innertune for a while and think it'd be cool to contribute, so I'm gonna look into the possibility of this.
I just got into android app dev earlier this year, though, so if anyone more experienced has any helpful resources or wants to take the reigns, I'll help where I can (my other projects are on a non-anonymous account lol).

There is a similar app called SimpMusic which supports widgets. However, it seems to be in early development and is far from InnerTune quality, with very many bugs. I would also like to see widget support for InnerTune soon.
