Suggestion: Add Zenodo DOI for citation
Dear developers,
Thanks for developing and maintaining this software. It’s very useful for writing papers. To make it easier for people to properly cite the software in publications, would you consider archiving the repository on Zenodo? Zenodo integrates directly with GitHub and can automatically generate a DOI for each tagged release. This would provide a stable, citable reference, with versioning, and help ensure you receive academic credit for the software.
Thanks for considering this!
Hi Isaac, thanks for the suggestion. While I do agree that fetching Zenodo data would be a useful feature, the scope of adstex is specifically to work with NASA ADS. As such, adstex does work with Zenodo entries that are indexed by NASA ADS, but it won't work for the ones that are not indexed by NASA ADS.
I am afraid that I don't have plans to expand the databases used by adstex.
Hi @yymao,
I realize I may not have explained my request clearly. I’m looking for a way to cite adstex using a Zenodo DOI: https://docs.github.com/en/repositories/archiving-a-github-repository/referencing-and-citing-content
I noticed that the README currently suggests citing adstex as:
This research has made use of adstex (\url{https://github.com/yymao/adstex}).
However, it would be more consistent and convenient for publications to cite it via a BibTeX entry rather than an inline URL. For reference, matplotlib archives its releases on Zenodo: https://zenodo.org/records/5773480, which is also synchronized on NASA ADS: https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2021zndo…5773480C/abstract. I believe adstex could be cited in a similar way if it were archived on Zenodo.
Thanks for the clarification! Indeed I misunderstood your first comment. I think your suggestion is reasonable, although I may submit adstex to ACSL (https://ascl.net/) instead of Zenodo.

@yymao That works too! I just wish there were a standard BibTeX entry to cite adstex. Thanks for considering this.
I have submitted adstex to ACSL (https://ascl.net/code/v/4482). I'll let you know once a bibcode is assigned to it and also update the README. Thanks again for this suggestion.
