Screen dimming and burn-in

Open galmok opened this issue 4 years ago • 3 comments

The latest rewrite/addition of the screen dimming causes an issue with OLED panels as it could cause burn-in.

Prior to this change, SmartTubeNext did not override the TVs screensaver which started after about two minutes (does so with every app that isn't showing video).

But now SmartTubeNext prevents the screensaver from starting and instead shows the current GUI, just dimmed.

Previously I could forget (sleep) while playing a video knowing that when it stopped, the screen would be ok as the TVs screensaver would kick in. Now I am concerned about burn-in, when the TV shows the same static image for hours on end.

Can we please have an option to disable the new behavior and allow the TVs built-in screensaver to do its work?

There is already a setting to turn off dimming. When I turned it off, it allowed my all-black screensaver to work again.

Doesn't work on my Philips 55POS9002 Android TV. When a video has finished paying and STN displays related videos, it just dims the screen. On the first screen, Home, it does forever slow the TV screen saver to work. I do have dimming turned off. I guess once a video has finished playing, the dimming takes precedence regardless of your setting.

It would be amazing if there is an option to start playing a playlist of videos in the background without sound, like the open source aerial views app and apple tv. Then a random playlist can be used to kick in even when using another app
