Steps to reproduce the bug
- Check releases on Github - latest stable 30.48
- Check latest stable from official website - 30.56
Actual behavior
@yuliskov I’m aware you have enough to do now, but could you maybe clarify the versions mismatch, so everyone can be a bit more relaxed? :)
Yesterday, the Beta from my MiBox 3 was automatically removed, so I went to the official website (https://smarttubeapp.github.io/) and downloaded the latest stable, which worked. I was even able to restore from Google Drive backup.
Then, I checked the version, and it was 30.56, which was weird, since here on Github, latest stable is 30.48 before your notification, and on my MiBox 4, I have the stable version 30.19, but I never received an update notification for 30.20 or later (I have update check turned on).
Thank you, and I hope this will be sorted, so everyone can continue enjoying Youtube without having ads pushed down our throats or worrying about malicious actors having taken over.

I'm confused as to what's going on to, I have version 30.55 installed but the latest version on here is 30.54. Then there's everyone talking about a version 30.56 which you can only get from some shortened link on the website?

Yes, that's where I downloaded it from. Checked it using virustototal.com and it says it's clean

30.56 is the absolute latest with the new digital signature (thus, future updates are enabled)
No apk on github, telegram channel does not let you comment, but you get a captcha you have to reply to within 60 seconds, which you can't, so you get banned.
Downloader App, with the 28544 code, does not work and gives an error.

Yes, that's what I downloaded from the official site, as mentioned in my post. That was not my question though.

I think a while ago, the app name was changed from SmartTube to SmartTubeNext, but I guess it was changed back, and maybe the code wasn't refreshed.

So, basically the downloader is being redirected to the current site.
Question. I have not installed the new signature test version of the beta build or stable build, that's because, to my surprise, the old stable build (with the old signature), is still actually working perfectly fine on my Firestick.
Should I be installing the new signature test version via beta or stable right now anyway? Or can I afford to wait until the old stable build stops working?
yes, you can keep it unless the PlayProtection is on. And don't forget to backup the data to easily move to the new one

yes. the latest that was created with the current key. there will be no more updates to it._
I had 20.79 stored in my shield folder, installed that and it is working fine :)
All fine now. I got the latest 30.56. it would be better when it would be also under GitHub releases section, just like it always was and not only on this special site.

I for one cannot trust any of the new versions until we can confirm your GitHub account (and Patreon) weren't compromised along with the old digital signature. (And in my eyes, neither should others, if they're sensible about it.)
Please update us with a transparent disclosure on the topic.

Yes, when I downloaded it, version number was 30.56.
You can always analyse any apk via this site too: https://sisik.eu/apk-tool and look for "versionName" in the output.

Does this mean 30.48 is still safe to use? I'm just logged in to the smartube but not logging in to my android tv, maybe that's why my playprotect is not protecting.

I saw a comment that said restore succeeded after multiple tries. Can't confirm, as I'm sticking with an old version for a while.
I haven't tried a Google Drive restore, but I was able to do a local restore successfully.
That said, you might want to strongly consider 1) not using any recent version of the app and 2) disconnect your Google account from it entirely, just to be safe https://github.com/yuliskov/SmartTube/issues/5131#issuecomment-3592402810 (though it sounds like it may be safe to re-install an older, uninfected version and reconnect your account to that, but everything is a bit unknown at this point still).

Sfter the first restore, it had my account logged in, but the settings were still defaut. After a second restore everything was fine.

I'd recommend you steer clear of any version until the dust settles and the dev has made an official transparency disclosure and we can actually confirm that that disclosure was posted by the actual dev.
