Same issue, on NVidia Sheild TV Pro. Text scroll speed appears to be locked at the slowest setting. I thought this might be due to importing settings from a previous build, but I cleared cache and data, and the problem persists.

Same issue, same version, shield pro. Even on 8x it's horribly slow..

nem8 avatar Nov 28 '25 19:11 nem8

I'm also on a nvidia shield, if that matters.

rodalpho avatar Nov 28 '25 20:11 rodalpho

On nvidia shield too and facing same issue.

Same issue on a fresh 30.56 install

Confirmed on my Shield as well.

Ditto on Google TV

Same for me on TiVo Stream 4K

Same issue. Fresh install of 30.56 beta on Firestick 4k Max Gen2 running Fire OS 8.1.5.5 (RS8155/3474).

Same here. Tried importing settings from 30.55 beta into 30.56 beta, but it didn't do anything except log me back in. Manually/Tediously set everything back the same, and the card text still speed is stuck at 1x. Hisense U8K on Google TV.

ShnikeJSB avatar Nov 30 '25 17:11 ShnikeJSB

Same here after installing 30.56. Using Sony Bravia.

Copying this verbatim from another bug report:

Getting ahead of the problem before it starts: people, use the star/watch/whatever feature it is so that we don't end up with a billion "me too" comments and the bazillion emails we'll all get from new comments being added.

Please, I beg of everyone stumbling across this issue, as someone also interested in tracking it, don't comment unless you have something substantive to add (ie logcat logs, a specific line of code, etc). The watch/star/whatever will notify you about updates. If those updates are noisy, you lose all benefit of tracking this issue, so, just, do the star thing, yeah? I don't think anyone is interested in filtering out a billion "me too" emails 😄

Same on a fresh 30.56 installation. Scroll speed setting worked previously on 30.24. Android 11 on AT&T Osprey.

It says this on the 30.56 stable page

Note: Android 9+ card's text auto scroll speed cannot be changed

Does this mean it will never be able to be changed? This is a massive basic usability issue.

It worked in a previous version under the same Android version. So no, this is something that can (and should) be fixed.

rvk01 avatar Dec 05 '25 18:12 rvk01

The scroll speed is basically unusable now-- I actually start videos just so I can read full titles. Why can't it be changed in the new version when it used to work?

rodalpho avatar Dec 05 '25 20:12 rodalpho

It's called a bug. It'll eventually get fixed. Patience is a virtue.

dberthia avatar Dec 05 '25 20:12 dberthia

Bug also exists in the new .59 stable release, at least on shield pro.

nem8 avatar Dec 06 '25 22:12 nem8

Workaround: Set "UI scale" to lower value (I have mine set to 0.5), and set the "Video Grid Scale" to higher. (I'm using 1.25)

This makes the cards overall smaller along with the text, so more text fits into a card, and thus no scrolling. If you are on a larger screen, you'll appreciate this setting anyway!

This seems to have broken with the new version of the app that uses the new signing keys.

I have installed both apps, old and new, on my Nvidia Shield TV Pro, and the setting works fine on the old app (latest update 30.55) and doesn't work at all on the new app (30.56/30.59).

Fixed in 30.64: https://github.com/yuliskov/SmartTube/releases/tag/30.64s

@dberthia thanks. The app didn't notify me about the new update. I did it manually anyway but I got this pop-up message:

Image

Maybe this is the warning @yuliskov is referring to on the 30.64 Stable release page.

ProfoundVoid avatar Dec 08 '25 22:12 ProfoundVoid

This warning will be in these cases:

  1. You installed the apk the first time
  2. You updated the already installed apk that runs in full compatibility with the current OS with one that doesn't

yuliskov avatar Dec 08 '25 23:12 yuliskov

But, why the warning now? I have used this app for a couple of years. Installed it countless times on multiple devices. Not just updates, actual uninstall/install, factory resets, new devices. Both the beta and stable releases. I don’t recall ever seeing this before on any of the devices I’ve used.

axpmonkey avatar Dec 09 '25 04:12 axpmonkey

@axpmonkey because I never set the target sdk to 33. All these years was 26. After moving new signature I set to 33 in hope that I can deal with all those bugs but I can't, at least right now.

yuliskov avatar Dec 09 '25 08:12 yuliskov

@yuliskov Thank you. That makes sense, kind of what I was thinking. But, just wanted to be safe.
