Steps to reproduce the bug

1. Go to "Settings"
2. Click "About"
3. Click "Check for updates"
4. Get error message "Update error: value not of type java.lang.string cannot be converted to JSONObject"

Actual behavior

This is a new error that appeared today 11/26/25, never saw it before

Does that mean i need to redownload/reinstall from github?

Not sure if the lack of update is the issue but stream pauses occasionally… also seeing “Update error: Value Not of type java.lang. String cannot be converted to JSONObject” if I try global update search I see “ The official app will be replaced with a so-called "bridge". A bridge helps to transfer global search requests to our app.” V30.48 thank you to Devs for great app.

Not sure what you mean by that, but I was able to download and install the new (beta) version this morning on my Shield via Downloader using the usual kutt.it link which gave me a 404 error days before.

I haven't seen any official mentionings about this yet so I am a little careful with it, but it seems to be legit. It installed along side the old, disabled version as version 30.56 and it hasn't been flagged by Google.

I am also having this exact same bug I'm on 30.19, I suppose I will try a manual sideload update?

So i was having this issue intil version 30.55. Installed now 30.56: the error does not pop up anymore.. actually "nothing" happens anymore whrn i click on "check for updates". I don't know if this function is even working.. or does that mean that we wont be able to update via the GUI anymore?

Updated manually to v30.56 via Kutt (stable) update feature also doesn't produce any results.
