  • [x] This issue contains only one bug.

Affected version

28.43 (sill present in 30.48)

Device Type

Smart TV/Box

Affected Android

Android TV 11 (NVIDIA SHIELD TV SW version 9.2.2)

Steps to reproduce the bug

  1. Update SmartTube to version 28.43 or newer (still happening in 30.48).
  2. Go to Android TV home screen and play some videos from the Recommended channel bar/widget.
  3. Exit SmartTube and look for new videos on the Recommended or History channel bars/widgets.

Actual behavior

All of the SmartTube channel bars/widgets on the Android TV home screen for NVIDIA SHIELD TV devices have stopped refreshing. Recommended does not show new videos and History does not show videos that have been played since the update to version 28.43 (and newer). The Recommended and History sections within SmartTube itself are behaving correctly, this issue is exclusive to the device home screen.

Additional information

I've reproduced this on two different NVIDIA SHIELD TV devices (a 2015 model and a 2019 model). This issue first started happening after updating to version 28.43 and is still present in 30.48 (this has happened before in prior years with much older versions of SmartTube). The Recommended and History sections within SmartTube itself are behaving correctly, this issue is exclusive to the device home screen. What's even more interesting as that the two different SHIELD devices both have SmartTube linked to the same account, yet the Recommended and History sections on the SHIELD homepages seem to be frozen in two different points in time and will not update. Clearing cache does nothing. Clearing data delinks my YouTube account, yet these Recommended and History sections still show the previous frozen in time values from my account.

still not fixed in 28.66, updated description to reflect that

Mine started doing that on an amazon fire tv max 2 , however my second account has no issues. The current main account is only showing 2 items at a time in recommended, and nothing underneath like recently uploaded or anything. Nothing was changed, and updated to 28.78 and still doesn’t work.

Same problem here, already a few issues opened with the same fault. If you log out, It will show as normal. It seems to be some sort of account related issue even though the normal youtube apps and website work fine.

These issues all seem related; https://github.com/yuliskov/SmartTube/issues/4743 https://github.com/yuliskov/SmartTube/issues/4726 https://github.com/yuliskov/SmartTube/issues/4507 https://github.com/yuliskov/SmartTube/issues/4390

Yeah I have a feeling youtube is messing with accounts, i think i read something a few weeks ago that they are targetting individual accounts for ad blocking. Perhaps this manifests itself in a weird way in Smart Tube.

Hmmm... I'm actually not sure if this is the same issue or not. I'm specifically talking about in this post is the home screen on my NVIDIA Shield TV devices. The Recommended section within SmartTube itself is updating fine. My issue is with the "widgets" (Shield calls them channels) not updating. There are three possible ones that you can add to the home screen for SmartTube: Recommended, History, and Subscriptions (see screenshot). I actually just tried adding the History one and noticed that it appears frozen in time as of my watch history from several versions ago as well. I'll update the description to reflect that.

Updated description to reflect that this is still an issue in version 29.37 (when I saw that the change log mentioned a fix for outdated channels, I got my hopes up that this would finally be resolved, but it isn't).

This is very, very much still a problem! Using version 30.48 on multiple Nvidia Shields and the recommended/history results on the devices' homescreens are frozen in time as of months ago. Tried clearing cache/data, even deleting and reinstalling. Very annoying.

bizarre. Try the new app (with new signature) and restore settings from backup and see if it happens still?
