Yep, this really useful feature has disappeared on latest update. Would be nice to have it back.

dsenela avatar Jun 08 '25 06:06 dsenela

Yes Please! It was my favourite feature next to adblock.

ScottAbrams avatar Jun 08 '25 15:06 ScottAbrams

Did it actually work? I picked that a few times and still got the channel recommended, albeit days later.

dontwantonebutneedone avatar Jun 08 '25 18:06 dontwantonebutneedone

The last update corrected this and the feature is back again.

I was still not seeing it and it said I was on the latest, so I deleted all data and cache for the app and signed in again. Its back. Thank you.

It’s not back on my V27.99… even after deleting data and re-login. Still missing from Context Menu as an option.

Not fixed AFAIK

bigshiny90 avatar Jun 08 '25 18:06 bigshiny90

I've updated today and it's been restored. Working fine.

You already posted this.

For me, it is not.

bigshiny90 avatar Jun 08 '25 20:06 bigshiny90

Yeah updating didn't help either, but only 1 account was affected. The main account we use doesn't have the feature but the secondary one never had the issue.

XerdaWinters avatar Jun 10 '25 04:06 XerdaWinters

I am also affected. 27.99 on Sony A90J.

g0r3 avatar Jun 12 '25 17:06 g0r3

Still here as well on Fire Stick. Cache cleared, restarted, same result.

I've been running 27.99 for over a week now, and until today "Don't recommend channel" wasn't appearing in the context menu for videos in Home. As of today, however, it has reappeared.

There was no action on my part (no cache clearing, updating, not even rebooting my Chromecast) to explain the reappearance, so I wonder if YouTube is doing some A/B testing that might explain the differing results people are seeing. 🤔

same for me, could be that YT is messing with own code and SmartTube passing the function to YT did not work until today.

I just switched to beta version and it had the setting. Yesterday it appeared in the main one without update or anything.

XerdaWinters avatar Jun 18 '25 07:06 XerdaWinters

I haven't change or updated smarttube versions recently.. but same thing for me. Suddenly Don't Recommend is showing in the Context Menu again. Oddly, it still is not an option when setting up Context Menu in Settings, it is not there to even turn on/off. I thought it used to be there, but i'm not actually sure at this point.

bigshiny90 avatar Jun 18 '25 13:06 bigshiny90

Same here. Verified it's not in settings to enable/disable. Both stable and beta (Android TV) are missing the option. Standard official YT app still shows it. No updates available, none installed for easily a week, at least. Literally just used the option yesterday, but I woke up this morning and now it's gone. It's clearly a server side issue, not a user fixable one.

This isn't a new issue. There are MANY tickets for this, none have ever been closed or responded to, the issue has never been officially addressed, and it KEEPS HAPPENING!!!!

FIX THE DAMN ISSUE ONCE AND FOR ALL ALREADY!!!!!! If you can't get the context menu right, leave it the hell alone!

Also missing from the Smart Tube app on my phone but not the official YT phone app

wilhelmscottd avatar Jun 26 '25 10:06 wilhelmscottd

It was back to it showing on both of my linked accounts, but yesterday it disappeared again on both. I guess it’s possible that it might be because of changes to YouTube side but checking on the YouTube app shows the option is still available on both accounts. Also, I still don’t understand why it’s not available in the smart tube context menu options.

Hope this gets fixed soon. It’s a pain.

It's clearly not YouTube when only Smart Tube is missing the option and not the official YT app.

wilhelmscottd avatar Jun 26 '25 11:06 wilhelmscottd

....and now the ST beta ATV app has the option again, but not the stable version. I didn't even exit the app,let alone FC or anything....tell me this isn't ST server-side😒

wilhelmscottd avatar Jun 26 '25 11:06 wilhelmscottd

The option vanished again today, like magic!

kendaleros1 avatar Jun 30 '25 19:06 kendaleros1

It's back, the stable update works!!! I checked around a half hour ago before the update hit me and it was missing. Checked again after updating and it's working again.

Thank you!!!! 😊

wilhelmscottd avatar Jun 30 '25 20:06 wilhelmscottd

Yes it’s back, what a relief and properly in the context menu settings.

Now if I only felt that YouTube respected the Don’t Recommend… 😂

bigshiny90 avatar Jul 01 '25 01:07 bigshiny90

It really does seem like whatever change made it go away was something server-side, which means big G was poking around with the do not recommend feature in some way. Hopefully that means they were doing some patches to make it work a little more reliably. It is a pretty big complaint with a lot of people, not just ST users. So they have to know about it being a problem.

wilhelmscottd avatar Jul 01 '25 12:07 wilhelmscottd

I still have this issue on latest stable... Specifically for me the bug occurs on A) all videos I've clicked on and B) SOME videos I haven't clicked on. This makes it basically fucking gone though. I can't determine if I don't want to recommend a channel until I've watched at least 5-10 seconds of the video...

Edit: for anyone having this issue, removing the don't recommend channel and not interested buttons from the context menu and readding them MAY have worked, but I can't tell. The issue was I'm getting a reduced context menu without those options. I'm not sure if what actually fixed it temporarily was just refreshing the recommended page or what I did, but I do keep the app open for very long periods of time so maybe that triggers this bug? My TV does keep the app in the background, so it's easy to have days or weeks using the app at a time. Will keep investigating.
