Same here on the Fire TV stick 4k. The app icon broke with the update.

Icon also disappeared on my Fire TV stick 4k after an update however I rebooted the stick via the "My Fire TV" menu and the icon came back.

Yes, the issue resolved itself for me as well.

Lichtblitz avatar Feb 01 '25 21:02 Lichtblitz

Does anyone managed to resolve this issue? I already rebooted my Firestick but the icon is still missing.

pcavalcanti avatar Feb 02 '25 23:02 pcavalcanti

Yes, the issue resolved itself for me as well.

Rebooted, not resolved.

I think this is a problem specific to Fire TV. Moving icons doesn't work properly. When I moved the icon of another app to front, the SmartTube icon returned.

Yes, it is definitely a problem with Firestick. Yesterday, I restarted the device, placed the Smarttube box in front of the others, and the icon appeared. Today, there was another update for Smarttube, and the same issue occurred (I am using the Beta version). It seems I will have to perform this workaround several times a month.

Update 25.92 (on Fire Stick 4K with Fire OS 6.7.0.9) did not resolve issue.

Zebrahead100 avatar Feb 08 '25 18:02 Zebrahead100

25.92 did not resolve the issue for me either. Also using a fire stick 4K

I tried moving, removing icon - restarting device. I tried removing app cache, changing STN UI settings (the app icon used to look like my chosen STN color settings and wondered if that was involved.

The icon will sometimes return for no reason I can determine or reproduce but the next STN update it disappears again.

The changelog for version 25.97 Beta states "Amazon Fire TV: missing icon fix?"

Unfortunately, the issue has not yet been resolved.

Guys, could you help me find an app (sideloaded one) that doesn't have this bug after the updates?

yuliskov avatar Feb 12 '25 01:02 yuliskov

This happened to me about a week ago and seems to stem from a Firestick update. I can only get the icon back after a reboot and even then it takes a certain time to reappear.

This happens every time I conduct an update to SmartTube. It only affects my Firestick and not my ONN streaming box which updates correctly.

I did sideload the SmartTube app to my ONN box via ADB.

Same here (Fire Cube)

nesingho avatar Feb 12 '25 17:02 nesingho

Firestick 4k max: after a reboot the small icon on homescreen is red and says beta, but the big icon after pressing the "apps" button on the remote is blue. Sideloaded beta ver via adb.

I also have this problem, but it is a little.deeper the spot where the earlier version pre update on one of the main favorite six spots shows a broken icon but still plays =then if I select apps and scroll. Down the new smart tube (updated) is there with icon, but can't move it.. But the app works fine.. Craziness

sampid71 avatar Feb 14 '25 02:02 sampid71

It seems like Fire TV is doing this on other sideloaded apps. It's doing it with sideloaded Kodi, for instance, as well.

The only way for me to restore the icon is to deinstall and reinstall, it happened to both beta and stable version on 4 of my Firestick 4K sometimes randomly and most times after an update. I have the settings backup up on google drive so deinstall and reinstall becomes less painful.

I also installed WOLF launcher on 2 of my Firesticks, they do not lose the icon when the Firestick own launcher loses the icon.

Yes, looks like this is an issue with Fire OS, not with SmartTube

Lichtblitz avatar Feb 15 '25 21:02 Lichtblitz

The Workaround until they fix the OS (it has happened to me on 2 separate sideloaded apps that can auto-update).

Move app from the Main/Quick bar into the general pool.

Restart FireStick

App Icon reappears.

Move back to Main/Quick bar.

If you don't move down to general it won't update the icon.

It looks like cycling power also updates the icon. Simply restarting did not do the trick for me.

Lichtblitz avatar Feb 17 '25 20:02 Lichtblitz

Found a fix that worked for me, go to:

SETTINGS>APPLICATIONS>MANAGE APPLICATIONS>CLICK THE PROBLEM APP>LAUNCH APPLICATION

This fixed my problem on firestick and my icon for SmartTube reappeared

Did not work for me, for my Firestick 4K, it had to be a restart

ukbirdflu avatar Feb 20 '25 10:02 ukbirdflu

I tried the same workaround and it didn't work on my Firecube.

Red998748 avatar Feb 20 '25 10:02 Red998748

I have updated Smarttube and its beta version yesterday, and the icon have stayed put. I think the problem have sorted itself out.

Yes, looks like Amazon might have fixed the issue with an update.

On my 3rd gen Firestick HD, I had to do both, move the icon down from top six AND then hard power cycle(unplug). Just hard power off/on didn't work for me. A move then a soft restart didn't work for me either. I cant wait to update ST and GrayJay on my 4k max in the living room. /S I'm sick of FireOS BS. Thanks, Amazõõm. Ya had a good run,.. 🤬'ers. I've decided, though a bit late for the glitch fuses, to try flashing a custom firmware on this POS, a real root with my own modifications. "If he dies, he dies." - Ivan Drago, Rocky IV 🥊

I am afraid after March, the Smartube icon on my Firestick 4K has been ok, both Beta and stable version, that is until last week when I noticed the icon is missing its picture again, using setting/my fire TV/restart I have to restart the stick twice to get the icon back, Failing that I have 2 solutions. 1. Use Wolf instead of the Firestick front page, you will get a cleaner page and icon never goes haywire. 2. Deinstall Smarttube and reinstall again. You can save time by adding smarttube website onto downloader's favourite, that saves a lot of time typing the address, and also on smarttube "about" save your settings onto e.g. google drive, when you reinstall you do not need to set the whole up from scratch, just choose restore your settings. and you are up and running again. I will also tend to use Stable Version when I do not need to update so often.

There isn't a way to flash custom firmware on those, but you can easily install a custom launcher.

Even though I ran my mouth off too much, this isn’t the place to talk about directly pentesting consumer eeproms though. 😬
