Thanks so much to the dev team. I realize they make a great effort to maintain this. I decide to donate to the team, I hope more people will join me as well
This is GitHub issues not Reddit posts
Great devs here ! great team , donation incoming !
Works for me!
Updated to latest stable. But not working
Updated to latest beta 22.39. Only live youtube feeds work. All others 403
Not working here
Not fixed my end.
Oddly friends who havent updated the app in over 6 months theirs works fine!
I just updated to the new beta (22.39 i think) and for me just trying about 3 random videos (not live streams as others say work but regular videos "dont") ... i mean 3 regular videos on an android tv box (my regular use-case) and they all play normally.
Again like i said in one of the ... far too many "403" git issues ... THANK YOU to the developer for your time and work.
I wish i was better at troubleshooting/coding so i could at least lend a better hand trying to figure this out rather than just post "it doesn't work for me either".
I do wonder if (this addon or even a fork of it to not get the code all messy) if in some way invidious could be used ... like you may have to resub (via Invidious) IIRC but in a sense that would still work when different things happen. Like a fall back or just alt type YT app that maybe more basic (JUST throwing out ideas) but it works even when YT make changes that break this (among others) addons
updated info: not sure if this matters BUT I DID clear cache and data BEFORE i updated(before there WAS AN UPDATE) ... maybe if this works for some but not others (22.39 what i did but maybe they didn't has an effect?) ... anyway just wanted to provide more info for others
Livestreams work, regular videos 403. Tried clearing the cache/data, no joy.
it wasn't working for me till i uninstalled and reinstalled
Not working for me, I'm using Google TV.
In Spain, at 20:30, working fine with update to 22.38.
Thanks to devs.
Not working beta 22.40 or 22.38
Direct updating, clearing cache and clearing data didn't worked.
That's how I got it working for me, also for 4k:
- Backup created
- Uninstalled app
- Installed 22.39 Beta
- Restored backup
Enjoy!
It's fixed! Great work guys
22.38 stable works for me, after reinstall
After latest Update, 403 error is gone. Thanks for the fast fix.
Update:
Firestick 4K Max user here.
PLAYING VIDEOS is WORKING after I uninstalled and/reinstalled the app (stable version)
BUT
I cannot sign into my youtube account Tried both Firefox and Chrome browsers I get the code and active it via "youtube.com/activate" it says it's complete but on the smartube up it says "None" and doesn't sign me in

Fails with 403 still.
For the last 2 days, July 8,9 2024, I had the same errors as others in this string, Source Error 403. Today, I turned on the TV, loaded the SmartTube app, tested and it failed again. I had installed SmartTube Stable yesterday, July 9, 2024 which did not fix the issue. I went to settings, selected the update and attempted to update, but the 2nd Gen FireTV Cube indicated that I had to give the "unknown app" permission to install at which point the FireTV admin app opened where all of the apps are listed. I scrolled down to the SmartTube app and toggled the Off to ON to allow the app to install and went back to the SmartTube application where it now allowed me to install the Version 22.38 update. Following the update, I restarted the application and now both recorded YouTube videos as well as live stream video is working perfectly. Thanks for fixing this problem. YouTube is really pretty much unwatchable without SmartTube!
I've been using beta because stable only works at 1080p after the 403 fix, however update 44 was available for beta, and after installing it yesterday July 19 I started receiving the 403 error on all videos after a short play (maybe 30 seconds). Wish I hadn't updated, now I'm back to stable 1080p until I figure out how to fix beta or wait for another update. Really annoying, the last update on beta fixed the 403 error before yesterday's update... still better than paying Google or being harassed by ads.
Update: just updated (July 20) beta to changelog 22.48, still getting 403 error on non live videos after exactly 55 seconds into any video. Will uninstall and reinstall and restore from backup when I have the time.
Same here. After 30 -90 Seconds 403 Error comes up, video is frozen for a few seconds (3-5), then video playing normal.
i have been testing the stable and/or the beta release on my android box and while the issue HAS come up again ... there seems to always be an update (thanks to the developer(s?) for al your work. Even IF the stable "403's again" (and it doesnt always do that), the beta has works.
The catch ... always make sure you are on the latest update for beta or "stable"
i think i at least on (cant remember both versions) 22.65
