Age restricted videos only working when signed out

Open jeyjai opened this issue 1 year ago • 4 comments

Here in EU we have stricter rules on youtube regarding age restricted videos, requiring us to send them either our ID card or credit card. But these videos still work when we're signed out on smarttube (and also newpipe), so wouldn't it be possible to have an option to somehow circumvent just age restricted videos so they're viewed as if we're not signed in? Having it as an optional setting so only those in countries effected by this have to use it.

I still have the same issue. Not even playing the video incognito helps.

I think incognito is only for videos to not show up in your history. Never really used it, i usually just remove the videos i don't want in my history.

There is a workaround, enable the setting to show account selector at the top of the screen, then when you find a video that won't start it often stops on a fullscreen of the thumbnail, after that go back and click the account button at the top of the screen to say 'none' and wait a few seconds for it to start playing. But you got to have PiP enabled to minimize the playing video. You could also long press the video and add it to your playback queue, switch to no account and play next video or select it from the playback queue list.

Not ideal since restricted videos aren't showing up in searches even when on a restricted account, but it works

But adding the function to play incognito videos as you're signed out would solve this
