[General Doubt] Publish to Store?
Hey!
I have a quick question (forgive me if this sounds stupid) - why hasn't anyone put ArchWSL in the Microsoft Store (or if it was there earlier, why was it pulled down)?
Since Arch is under GPL (I might be wrong), we may publish it under a similar but distinct name, right?
Thanks and cheers!
Just FYI, some old stories I have heard of:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=249547 https://www.reddit.com/r/archlinux/comments/bwo84q/arch_wsl_gone/ https://www.reddit.com/r/windows/comments/bntoha/arch_linux_for_wsl_is_now_available_in_the/
Thanks @escape0707, I was aware of the Arch discussion thread, but not the reddit ones! Good read.
I don't know now, but it used to be a hassle because it required a developer registration fee and approval for apps that required high permissions.
However, I have an individual developer account, so it's possible to try it out.
@yuk7 That'd be awesome! It'll help in the long run by taking care of certificates, updates etc. itself automatically.
I know it'd be really difficult to get the official Arch teams approval for an official distro, but I don't think ArchWSL users care about this as long as they can see all the source code. We can just state that it's unofficial in the Store app description.
Just leaving a comment here to say that official store support would be awesome. It would allow easy access with winget as well. :)
We can try winget instead
