Every directory creates .tags file, how to prevent

Some projects do not need atom-ctags, or in the simple example where I just open a random file on the file system with atom. Every time .tags is created.

What do you suggest for this case?

thx! I remember checking "Automatically rebuild tags" but cannot find it anymore for quite a while. Maybe I have failed to find it in "Settings".
