Need more information.

What's Linux distribution & Gnome-Shell version you are using?

You can run journalctl -r /usr/bin/gnome-shell in terminal then paste the log of gnome-shell to here when this problem occurs in next time. It might be helpful.

Maybe you need to enable loggin then check /var/log/rc.log in your system:

Sorry that I don't have using experience to Gentoo Linux. I am using Arch Linux with GNOME Shell 42.3.1, but have not met this problem in xorg session yet.

I'm using Void Linux (Gnome-shell 42.3.1, with an NVIDIA 1050ti on Xorg) with Runit and facing this same issue, i enabled the extension, rebooted, logged back in and waited for a crash.

After it gave me the sad screen, I went into a TTY and did cat ~/.cache/gdm/session.log >> /home/amethyst/crash.log

don't know if this is the right file, if it isn't, tell me.

this is the file itself, don't know if there's anything of important in here crash.log
