Policies by removing a node due to unavailability

Are there guidelines as to when a node is removed? How is this currently handled?

My suggestion:

  1. Determination of unavailability
  2. Confirming unavailability from more than one computer
  3. Contact and inform the operator
  4. If the operator cannot be reached: Wait a time X
  5. Check accessibility. If unavailable, remove node

I would suggest maybe two weeks or so for X.

I have found that it is very important to contact the operator. I contacted several operators in the Hyperboria Public Peer Repo and found that for some the problem was misconfiguration, while others stopped their service and forgot to create a PR to remove their node.

Any other suggestions? What would be the way to make or introduce this procedure "officially".
