Unfortunately you cannot, as far as I am aware the download is limited to Flac or m4a files. No ATMOS.

m4a files have EAC3 with Atmos inside. You can use Dolby Access to activate it on Windows 10. If you will open it in Windows Media Player, it will play it as Atmos! You can click on sound icon on panel control, it will write it is playing Atmos!

For example:

Is this a file that has been downloaded with this tool? I am aware that atmos can be muxed into an mp4 container, but is this a file from tidal?

Yeah.

into an mp4 container

Or m4a container. That is just mp4 for audio, just like mkv and mka.

ValZapod avatar Feb 21 '21 20:02 ValZapod

You can try this album, for example https://tidal.com/browse/album/153392148

Or Star Wars.

That’s neat, I will surely try that. “Or m4a container. That is just mp4 for audio, just like mkv and mka.” It’s just a different extension. The container is still mp4.

I need an auth token from something like a shield to get atmos tracks though, am I right?

tbrtje avatar Feb 21 '21 21:02 tbrtje

You do not actually need a device (Amazon Fire TV) to get an auth tocken. The tidal-gui will behave as Fire TV and Tidal will think you're signing up on amazon fire TV. That is how it is done in even youtube for a TV. Totally unsecure, but good for us.

The container is still mp4.

Sure. Though you may not need to init video surfaces for mka and m4a and init HDCP 2.2 video surfaces or whatever. Microptimisation.

So, BTW, no. Band in the header is different. In hex editor M4A band is present in the header for m4a only.
