fails to install on ubuntu 16.04

I've followed the installation instruction but it fails when running node output pasted here https://pastebin.com/T7RQTbBs

Your error is "The program 'npm' is currently not installed". Please make sure you have installed correctly nodejs and npm. https://nodejs.org/en/

Could you continue reading the pasted output after the line you quoted?

Sorry for missing the full output. Not sure what is exactly the issue here - try again in a new root to install blessed and blessed-contrib. Are the folders being created in node_module with their sub modules? If not can you manually install the blessed-contrib submodules to see which one is problematic? Specifically try to install x256 based on the pasted output.
