Hangs without feedback upon creating spreadsheet

After creating the spreadsheet, I don't see feedback to indicate that the operation was successful. The app is still processing, but I can only tell by hovering my mouse over the menu bar and seeing the waiting icon. If I clicking out of the window and go do something else (like edit the spreadsheet), it finishes running and displays properly after a while.

I have the same problem (under Linux / JRE 8, Update 121).

Same problem there too, tested on three different PC with almost the same config (recent (X)ubuntu, updated). Details about the current machine :

openjdk version "1.8.0_131"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_131-8u131-b11-0ubuntu1.16.04.2-b11)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.131-b11, mixed mode)

cat /etc/issue → Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS

Has anybody been able to run pattypan lately on a newly installed system ? If so I am interested in the details of the OS used, I am happy to run it into a Virtualbox until it gets fixed on my host system.
