Follow GNOME HIG
Even though this may not currently be within the scope of the project, I would think it is a good idea to try to stay as close to the guidelines as possible.
Here is a list of things I have noted that are in contradiction of the HIG:
- Symbolic icon (#397), and also making sure that the colors used in the icon come from the palette
- Adapt to accessibility settings and improve compatibility with such options: https://developer.gnome.org/hig/guidelines/accessibility.html
- tooltips
- keyboard shortcuts
Feel free to add any others, I'm not a coder so I can't comment on internals.
Thanks for the issue!
I was thinking of redoing the icon myself, (it doesn't have a dev variant either and it blends in with the dash) though nothing came out of this yet.
I'd love to have an a11y audit of Spot - for example, large text didn't work properly until very recently, so it'd be nice to be much more consistent in that area. Feel free to test it out and leave issues concerning this.
Same with tooltips - it'd be great to be more consistent there.
There are some keyboard shortcuts but they aren't exposed in the UI. I don't think we have mnemonics either.
Good list of things to do :) we should have a few dedicated issues once we identify specific things that need to be adressed.
We already have a few shortcuts and tooltips, but we're a missing a few that's for sure!

I'm assuming this fix has not made its way to stable, as one thing I noted was the absence of large text support.

I haven't noticed any tooltips, care to point me to them?

Just the playback controls really...

Yeah, it's just on development
branch so far.
