[Feature Request] Remember application state when closed and reopened

Open bbb651 opened this issue 3 years ago • 3 comments

The official Spotify app remembers it's state across launches, which is probably what the user will expect and it seems to be the direction Gnome is going in (the settings app for example), Spot is currently does not remember the state for:

  • [ ] shuffle and loop buttons state
  • [ ] current song progress
  • [ ] now playing queue
  • [ ] sidebar state and current playlist/album view (does not happen with the official app, but makes sense in Gnome)

While playing a song and closing the window, Spot keeps running in the background (not sure if it's a bug or intentional, this behavior is pretty confusing), and when reopening the window the state is restored perfectly since it never actually closed in the first place, I think this is how reopening the app should feel

Hi!

That sounds reasonable! The trickiest part is probably saving the queue but it should be possible to serialize everything,

While playing a song and closing the window, Spot keeps running in the background (not sure if it's a bug or intentional, this behavior is pretty confusing)

This is intentional, it's an optional feature in Lollypop that I liked and implemented here as well, but you're not the first to say it is confusing -- I might have to reconsider it, or make it opt-in as well.

Indeed it is confusing. A checkbox entry "Run in background" within the menu would help a lot. Sorry for hijacking.

Hey! Any news regarding this feature? Remembering the queue for my long playlists after closing the app is probably the only thing stopping me from using only Spot as my music client right now :(
