Consider supporting byacc again
Hey there,
In the new issue, please write a self-contained description that:
- links to this MR
- provides examples of distributions with such configuration (with links)
- links to at least one relevant bug report in these distributions
As requested in #644, here's a list of some distributions using byacc as their default YACC implementation:
Regarding the last request, I am unable to provide a relevant bug report currently, for a variety of reasons.
Thank you for your time and effort.
It seems only glaucus uses a non-obsolete release of libxkbcommon, and it seems a very niche distribution. Hahn does not seem to even build it.
As I understand the main issue is such distros symlink bison to byacc, which is arguably not a good practice since these programs do not support the same feature set and thus are not interchangeable. In such setups we cannot even keep the bison-specific features behind some guard, since byacc impersonates bison.
I am unable to provide a relevant bug report currently, for a variety of reasons.
Thus I am inclined to close this issue as irrelevant for now, since it seems purely speculative.
Closing. Feel free to reopen if you have some news.
