Make use of video hardware decoding

Open martialgallorini opened this issue 4 years ago • 3 comments

Hi,

On low power configuration, video is lagging when on the same machine under Windows 10 everything runs smoothly.

Is Linux Player optimized for hardware decoding ?

Running on mini PC Zotac ZBOX CA320

thanks

Please can you try the edge build of the Player and see if that improves things on your hardware?

yes seems better with Edge channel. Could be better though, but i think this can be due to screen tearing

Follow up question to this: If we are displaying a stream, we can either put that in the HLS Widget or the Local Video Widget. HLS Widget will (by default) load that using a browser and a HTML player - does the Player do the default behaviour, or does it detect the HLS Widget and load the video using gstreamer anyway (which should be perfectly capable of handling the stream).

Overall query as to whether hardware decoding is being used in all cases - we've had reports of high CPU usage when using Video module, HLS and Local Video
