System Root Cache Folder Creation for Title Updates Saved in System (root) Cache

Open SH1TH34D opened this issue 5 years ago • 5 comments

System Root Cache folder is not created/accessible for users to move their system cache title updates saved specifically in that folder.

Ideally Xenia would create a folder in the install location "System Cache" etc. into which users would be able to place the title updates taken from that location on their 360. The only system in place currently is the --mount_cache gflag

it would be nice to access/mount the entire virtual drive system of the 360. also i'm slightly confused as to why xenia stores both stfs packages and their unpacked contents at the same time currently

@Razzile it doesn't? what are you talking about?

@gibbed I guess something has changed since then because in the past when I wanted to copy in a save file, the save existed as both an stfs package and its extracted contents in xenia's save folder (which I can now no longer find - doesn't seem to be the one in documents)

The only time STFS packages of save files would exist in the content folder is if someone who didn't know what they were doing copied it there. I've seen people toss their save games in content as STFS packages and zip it up and send it to others... even though Xenia can't read it like that. It would see that something is there, but the game would think it's corrupted.

It may be a good idea to create a new label for the game compatibility list to assign to games that are unable to use DLC/TU's in Xenia due to their being stored in the system cache. Perhaps something along the lines of "Stores Title Updates in System Cache". This may help to keep track of which games utilize this feature.

Games I know of that exhibit this behavior (bear in mind this is based on what I see on my slim hdd with 4gb internal memory unit and games saved to external usb fat32 500gb ssd - behavior on other 360 models and/or with different hdd configurations may be different. These are all GoD titles w/ Game ID):

Borderlands (545407E7) Burnout Revenge (454107DC) Gears of War 2 (4D53082D) Gears of War 3 (4D5308AB) Halo 3 (4D5307E6) Halo: Reach (4D53085B) Rainbow 6: Vegas (555307D6) Rock Band 3 (45410914)

I do not know if any XBLA titles exhibit this behavior, but am sure there are more non-XBLA titles that do. No games have updates stored in both locations - it is either in the system cache or the game folder. When saved in system cache, the only way to get them off of the hdd depends on the 360 model in question, and are as follows:

Method 1 (ONLY PERTAINS TO 360 CONSOLES WITH NO INTERNAL 4GB MEMORY UNIT): If you have an old 360 with the gray detachable external hdd you can use the xbox 360 hdd usb transfer kit (or take apart the hdd and use direct sata to pc connection) and velocity to browse and find the system cache folder.

Method 2 - JTag modification

POSSIBLE Method 3 - if the system does not have internal memory it is possible that you can attach an external usb hdd formatted to fat32 and use it as a system drive, thus allowing the system cache to be installed on that drive, then browsed with velocity after installing said games and updates.
