VM hangs on iPXE initialising devices during network boot
XCP-Ng:
Version: 8.2.0 All patches applied.
Hardware: Dell PowerEdge R7515 CPU: EPYC 7302P NICs:
- Broadcom BCM5720
- Intel X710 Tested on both.
VM Setup:
- Standard Windows 10 Template (2vCPU, 4G RAM, 50 GB HDD, UEFI without Secure Boot - network boot as first device).
TFTP Server - FOG Project.
I can successfully PXE boot virtual machine with same setup on other XCP-NG Server (using same TFTP Server and network switch).
Result:

Same issue happening here.
Also using Fog Project.
Can network boot from Fog server, but hangs at iPXE initialising devices identically to OP.
Tried with Fog running DHCP as well as dnsmasq running on Fog.
Trying to create a capture image that can be snapshot'd prior to sysprepping.
Ok, this raises many questions :
- Does it fail only for UEFI VMs?
- It's a bit surprising that it works with some XCP-ng servers and not others. Can you identify any significant differences between them in terms of update status or configuration?
- Do you know the exact iPXE version and enabled features? If that is so, could you try to setup a manual PXE boot with this exact release of iPXE, ideally with the same feature set?
- What should we do if we want to try to reproduce the issue internally? I've never used the Fog project.
Having this issue currently. @bolteq Were you able to resolve?
