I think that if you want just the number of pages to return a number, you have to buy the product. Currently this 'free' version can only append page number and count to the actual word document (albeit incorrect count on the first page).

Hi,

Currently, DocX is building ooxml (xml tags) data which will be read by MS Word. The page count of a document will be known once MS Word will read the ooxml. This is under evaluation to fix this issue. Thanks.

Hi, v1.9 (which is not released yet) will have an experimental feature, returning the document's Page count. This will only be part of the "Xceed Words for .NET" available here: https://xceed.com/en/our-products/product/words-for-net Thank you.
