Not working with no debug info

When I run save, it tells me to look at the output window, but nothing is there. If I run clang-format on the command line it works fine. Is there some sort of special thing I need to do to get debug output? I am using this on a Fedora 30 VM that I SSH into (using VSCode's remove development).
