How to rename solidworks parts in assembly to use Component Reference Property

Gentlemen:

I am currently using Circuitworks to export IDF file data to solidworks. My idf file has over 2000 electronic components. Each of these components has a generic filename and instance number identifying the part. Out of 2000 components, I have perhaps 60 unique package styles. However, Circuitworks files in the component reference designator ( or UNAME) in the Component Reference field ( swComp.ComponentReference).

I need to transfer the solidworks assembly file to a downstream thermal analysis (Ansys). I need the Component Reference field to be exposed as part of the part name (or the entire partname) in the downstream analysis for purposes of easily assigning power and thermal resistance values.

Is there a way to export the file, either as a parasolid or step, such that the individual parts retain the component reference field data as part of the part name? I think that maybe a macro could be used to accomplish this, but I have no idea how to go about it.

Any help that you could give would be greatly appreciated!
