Recognize previous alias of part

Sometimes it would be useful to know a parts previous name after a pack-and-go or a Solidworks rename has been performed. Sometimes a part may change slightly and be packed into a new project under a new name, but I would like to somehow have a trace of the documents previous names.

The real benefit to this is being able to reuse old manufacturing programs. Ex: machining toolpaths on the new part.

Would it be possible to have a macro or maybe embed a text file into the part’s design binder with this history?
