Lenovo L560 does not shut down properly with 5.17 but does with 5.15
Hi there,
I am using xanmod on a Lenovo L560 notebook as the debian kernel did not allow a proper shutdown, the FN key keeps glowing and the power button does not work except for a long press to power off completely. This issues was not there with xanmod 5.15 but is now with xanmod 5.17. It seems to be a known issue for some lenovo machines and seems related to hibernation (am I seeing this issue for the poweroff command though), see e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z12txOOhg5g
Any ideas what change was made for 5.17 and if you could roll it back?
Thanks in advance!
It may also be relevant that I use a 2nd HDD in the CD/DVD tray on this thinkpad.
I observed this with ThinkPad L560 without 2nd HDD in CD/DVD tray as well as with ThinkPad X260 using self-compiled vanilla kernels. With those newer kernels Linux does not properly switch the laptop off on shutdown. It does not properly reboot and it does not resume from standby. On hibernation it also does not completely switch the laptop off, but it resumes from hibernation just fine.
So I tried linux-xanmod-lts which installed a 5.15.51 kernel. Restarting works, shutdown down works, hibernation works and really switches off the laptop. Standby kind of works, but it seems the graphics driver hangs on resume. I can restart the SDDM display manager to get back a working desktop.
So all in all the situation is definitely better with a 5.15 kernel.
hennr, did you report this upstream or with the distro you are using? Its clearly an upstream kernel issue. If not I think it would be a good idea to report on https://bugzilla.kernel.org/ or the respective distro bug tracker.
