Given the changes in VLC 3, I changed direction and worked TraktForVLC as a VLC module. This means that moving to use mpris2 is not a possibility anymore.

So that's definitely a locale issue, and you might end-up with the issue again next time you start it. I'll try to investigate how to reproduce and fix the issue......

I encounter the same problem from time to time. In the meantime, I found that disabling and enabling again the extension in gnome-shell resumes normal activity. Still not desirable though.
