Amphetamine app clamshell mode not working on MacBook M1 Pro

Open gopipal opened this issue 2 years ago • 6 comments

I am using an MacBook Pro M1 running macOS Monterey 12.5. I tried to enable clamshell mode (without the power-adapter connected) with the Amphetamine app using this tutorial: https://beebom.com/use-macbook-clamshell-mode-without-power-adapter/ I have an indefinite session running and music playing on Spotify app. When I close the lid the music keeps playing, so far so good. Then when I plugin my monitor HDMI input the music stops and my monitor does not show anything. It reports no signal and it remains black. Note: Initially I don't have any monitor/keyboard connected to my mac.

Running this command somehow makes this work. But the article says either use the app or these commands. The problem with running this command is that even after my session ends my laptop won't sleep, causing battery to drain faster than otherwise it would have.

sudo pmset -a disablesleep 1

Thank you so much for this solution.

If you sudo pmset -a disablesleep 0

It turns it off.

0 is off and 1 is on (binary)

I have the same issue. M1 Pro MBP, Trackpad via BT, Keyboard via usb-c. Session is set to indefintely, lid is closed, monitor connected via DP/usb-c. when I disconnect the power supply the display goes black and I have to reconnect to power?

I have another issue that might be related: I am using my M1 MacBook in clamshell-mode, connected to power (via USB-C) and 2 external Displays (via an 2x USB-C to HDMI Adapter). When I enable an Amphetamine-Session both displays instantly become black and music playback stops. It seems the MacBook is going to sleep mode when enabling an Amphetamine-Session. I already tried to disable option "Enable Sleep when display is closed" in Amphetamine-Settings and installed Amphetamine-Enhancer and its scripts. Nothing fixed it so far... any ideas?

Edit: just had another strange effect, after closing Amphetamine App, both displays and music playback shortly stopped, displays came back after 1 second, playback keeps stopped.

Will keep using caffeine until this issue is fixed although it doesn't run native on M1 and requires emulation with rosetta 2...
