The default for Ubuntu-land seems to be unencrypted boot so in this sense using Calamares to provide an encrypted boot, Lubuntu is exceptional. My guess is that the GRUB set...

@abucodonosor I think your idea is totally workable. Just inelegant, especially as it relates to packaging.
We ran into this issue in Lubuntu. By looking at /sys/firmware/efi/fw_platform_size, we could figure out the right EFI package (for us grub-efi-amd64-signed or grub-efi-ia32) package.
