Do not load NSFW images eagerly

Open maxolasersquad opened this issue 7 years ago • 4 comments

If someone you follow posts #NSFW thee images do not show up on your screen, but the thumbnails and the first image are still eagerly loaded in the background. Someone checking their Diaspora stream at work could find themselves in hot water (or fired) even if they never click to reveal the images.

Also, when viewing someone's profile, if they have uploaded #NSFW images then the thumbnails will be eager loaded by just opening that person's profile. They will show on the screen by just clicking on that person's "Photo's" tab.

There are a number of situations where this could not be true. For example, some colleges have been reported to force their students to install fake certs to let them sniff ssl traffic. It is conceivable some corporate offices are doing the same on their machines so they can spy on their employees.

There's also the issue of some people would probably just prefer their machines not download content that has been explicitly marked as NSFW as a personal preference.

fake certs

as deskribe dont use it

And it would also save bandwith if you dont load "hiden" contend.

Steepshot and steemit load a placeholder image for NSFW tagged content. you have to click to load the image. This is configurable in setting but probably the sort of thing you are looking for. Keeps you out of trouble as the basic image is loaded instead.
