Keep my preference about not using the mobile version

Open ldidry opened this issue 8 years ago • 3 comments

On my phone, if I choose to disable the mobile version (since the desktop version is mobile friendly now), I got the desktop version, but if I close my browser (really close, swiping it out from the current apps), and come back to Diaspora*, I got the mobile version again.

Diaspora* version: 0.6.3.0 Diaspora* pod: framasphere.org Phone: Nexus 6P, Android 7.1.1 Browser: Firefox Nightly 54.0a1

I killed Firefox, I even restarted my phone, but it still remembers that it should you the desktop version. Any hint about how to reproduce this problem?

I don't use diaspora directly anymore (moved to friendica) and it was long ago. But, if I can still help, it was on Chrome on Android (if that makes a difference) and usually just closing the browser window and reopening it was enough to revert to the mobile view.

I can reproduce it both with firefox and chrome on android. It looks like the session cookie (where this information is stored) gets deleted when you close the browser.

But we were discussing on IRC about maybe just switching the default, so that the responsive view becomes the new default and then eventually the old mobile view will be deprecated and dropped anyway. So I don't know if it's actually worth to put effort into this to store this information also outside of the session cookie somewhere. I also don't know if there is a setting somewhere so the session cookie doesn't get deleted (I didn't find anything, but as it seems to not get lost for @Flaburgan there must be a difference somewhere?).
