Add accessible captcha (Was: add audio captcha for signups)
now my blind friend cannot sign up without help from someone who can see. There should be an audio caption option so that any blind person can also sign up on diaspora.
Ideally this would be integrated into simple_captcha.
We're currently using this fork: https://github.com/izzm/simple-captcha, but that seems to have gone stale again. Therefore in the rails4 branch it's switched to this seemingly more active fork: https://github.com/pludoni/simple-captcha
Audio captcha wouldn't work for people who are both deaf and blind. Why not offer a text-based solution, which would work with any user's accessibility support software? One approach is to ask a Turing Test question that requires AI-complete facilities to answer. A much simpler approach is to ask for an email address, send a verification email, and let the user reply or click a link to confirm.
Email confirmation is a simple approach but it has a simple workaround.
I recently received this request again in a reddit - group. At least an audio output would help blind people. Do we need in 2021 still captchas?
