Unable to turn off auto update

Open jaoueis opened this issue 3 years ago • 3 comments

macOS version: 12.2.1 Kap version: 3.5.4

Steps to reproduce

Download and install the previous version from GitHub releases. The app will auto-update to the latest version after restarting the machine.

Current behaviour

Auto-update after restarting the machine.

Expected behaviour

A switch in preferences to turn off auto-update.

Workaround

Currently no workaround.

Notes

The reason why I'd like to use an old version is that the latest version loads extremely slowly on my machine. Version 3.2.2 works fast on my machine.

There another reason for avoiding auto updates: On my work machine, I need to "request privileges" every time I update something. So now I need to either dismiss Kap or request privileges and enter my password all the time, which is unfortunate.

That's really valuable information @gregoralbrecht, thank you. I seems like this feature is wanted by quite a few people. If anyone wants to take a look at implementing it, we'd be really grateful.

Currently, I only have bandwidth to try and update Kap's dependencies (sounds a lot easier than it is) so I won't have time to work on this feature for a while, myself.

I wonder if renaming/removing /Applications/Kap.app/Contents/Resources/app-update.yml could be a workaround?
