Another useful trick is to enable "Full text search" in Zotero preferences

Did you manage to set up zotero-ocr?

I think so. It required some third party dependencies. In Arch Linux I installed tesseract and tesseract-data-eng from the package manager. I had poppler preinstalled, but I had to make a symlink because zotero-ocr assumes some path.
