Control Spotify Connect enabled devices using the Connect protocol?

I don't know what the status of clonos is - is it actually working? If so, why are there no binaries available in the respective repos? Either way... I wonder if it would be possible to create an application that can query and remote-control another device that runs Spotify via the Connect protocol.

If I understand correctly, there's some HTTP interface in clonos, but it is used to receive events such as volume up/down, that an official Spotify client may send. How about doing the reverse? Is there always encryption / authentication, that needs to be dealt with? Or is there some simple way?
