World Bank GitHub License
Hi @KPGeo we discussed this some time ago, leaving this here as a suggested todo. @g4brielvs I assume you are the master and commander of this project, tagging you in case this is something you can take care of.
Currently our WB license is not recognized/published on GitHub. There is a process to submit the license (I believe it is described here https://github.com/github/choosealicense.com/blob/gh-pages/CONTRIBUTING.md#adding-a-license ) so that GitHub recognizes the template.
This then allows selecting the license when creating a new repository (which currently is not supported):
It also then shows the provided name (I'm assuming "World Bank Community License") rather than the ambiguous "View License" in the current repo overviews:
Similar to how MIT license is recognized and shown:
This would be a great way to increase WB uptake of the license. Currently, most repos are on MIT.
@BPJandree Thank you so much for opening this issue 🚀 We discussed previously on licensing (#6), and it would be awesome if the WB Community License is recognized by GitHub.
I'd be more than happy to work with GitHub (especially since GitHub has joined the Development Data Partnership). However, it seems that, in its current format, the WB Community License, requires a signing/countersigning. I'll check with GitHub if this would present an issue and I'll keep everybody up to date here.
@BPJandree Just a quick update on this: we've started a discussion seeking guidance on the WB OSL. It has been discussed that this license may not be OSI-compatible.
